Description: This research study by the IBRC was completed in March of 2026 and commissioned by the Office of Entrepreneurship and Innovation. The research was composed of three phases. Phase 1 of the study evaluated the share of business owners aged 55+ across the state of Indiana using U.S. Census Bureau data. Phase 2 investigated revenue at stake relative to the entire state of Indiana, on a county by county basis, and by sector. Phase 3 estimated the economic impact of 55+ owned businesses after their revenue is affected and established a vulnerability index for most at risk sectors, counties, and regions.
