Senate Resolution 35 – Final Outcome

The Indiana Legislative Council met on May 21 to review and assign topics to the interim session study committees.   As described by Senate President Pro Tem Rodric Bray (R-Martinsville):

“Study committees provide an important opportunity for lawmakers to examine complicated issues in depth without the same time restrictions we face during a legislative session,” Bray said. “As such, they serve an important role in helping us prepare for the next session. We have collaborated to identify a number of important topics for study, and I look forward to productive conversations between lawmakers, Hoosiers and stakeholders as we take a hard look at these issues in the coming months.”

Unfortunately, Senate Resolution 35 was not assigned to a study committee during the interim session.  While this outcome is a bit disappointing, nonetheless, INCEO was successful in communicating/promoting the value of employee ownership as SR 35 was Authored by (Sen. John Crane, Sen Eric Koch) and Co-Authored by (Sen. Mark Stoops),  The Senate Committee on Commerce and Technology (9 to 0 in recommending support), and a voice vote of support in the Indiana Senate.

INCEO would like to thank Senator(s) John Crane, Eric Koch, Mark Stoops and the members of the Senate Committee on Commerce and Technology Senator(s) Chip Perfect (Chair), James Merritt (Ranking Member), Blake Doriot, Chris Garten, Erin Houchin, Eric Koch, Jean Leising and Andy Zay (Majority Members), J.D. Ford (Ranking Minority Member), and Lonnie Randolph and Mark Stoops (Minority Members).

I am hopeful that in the upcoming legislative session we will be able to re-engage the Indiana Senate, as well as engage in the Indiana House and perhaps have resolutions of support for employee ownership in both legislative houses.
